Innovative Design, Sustainable Future

Sun Set Adobe was born from artisanal craft, interior architecture, and environmental stewardship in Joshua Tree, California.

Founded by interior architect Sharla Pidd, Sun Set Adobe reimagines traditional earthen architecture for modern living. Frustrated with the greenwashing of “sustainable” construction materials and inspired by Southwestern building traditions, Sharla saw a gap between DIY earthen builders and everyday homeowners who simply want to bring natural, earth-conscious elements into their space.

What began as deep R&D into local soil mixtures, recycled glass repurposing, and high-performance curing has evolved into the Sun Block collection—a proprietary, low-carbon building material created to make durable, climate-smart desert design available to everyday builders and homeowners.

Our Approach

We work directly with homeowners, local builders, design teams, and creators looking to integrate natural materials into their environments. From interior partitions to decorative privacy/landscape walls, every block is made with attention to detail, long-term durability, and harmony with the desert.

Let’s Build Better Together!

Whether you’re planning a sustainable home addition, building an eco-conscious backyard structure, or specifying natural masonry for landscape features, Sun Set Adobe offers a grounded, time-tested approach to modern building.

Beauty in Simplicity

Adobe is made from humble and simple ingredients: sand, clay, straw and water.

A Note on Exterior Durability: all exterior-grade blocks are carefully stabilized during production to withstand the elements, ensuring long-lasting strength and weather resistance for outdoor walls and architectural installations.

Sand

Mojave Desert Sand: Harvested right from our high desert surroundings, our sand provides the structural backbone and distinct texture native to our region.

Clay

Greater Coachella Valley Clay: Sourced nearby, this rich clay acts as the natural binder, giving our blocks their warm, earthy tones and structural integrity.

Straw

Straw: Blended into the mix as a traditional organic binder, helping to control curing and add tensile resilience.
